THE DECEMBERISTS EARN THEIR FIRST-EVER #1 ALBUM WITH THE KING IS DEAD

The Decemberists have earned the first-ever #1 chart position of their career with the impressive first-week showing of their widely acclaimed new album The King Is Dead, which was released by EMI's Capitol Records on January 18. The album scanned 93,567 units in the U.S. in its debut week, landing it at the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart, and has also given the band their highest career chart position in territories all over the world. The King Is Dead was released on Rough Trade Records in the UK and Europe.

Over the course of 6 albums and 10 years, the Portland, Oregon based band has steadfastly followed their own creative path, from their 2002 debut Castaways and Cutouts and the early critical breakout success of 2005's Picaresque on Kill Rock Stars, to their even more ambitious efforts for Capitol Records, 2006's The Crane Wife and 2009's song-cycle The Hazards of Love. Now with The King Is Dead--a profoundly simple set of 10 concise country-inflected songs produced by Tucker Martine and featuring guests Gillian Welch and Peter Buck--The Decemberists have reached music's top spot entirely on their own terms.

TIME magazine predicted before the album's release that "with critical buzz building behind it, The King Is Dead could mark their crossover to the realm of important American rock groups alongside the likes of Wilco and the White Stripes." Rolling Stone marveled at "how much richness and beauty the group has folded into the 40-minute album," adding that "For a band able to push the limits of songwriting, it's a revelation, and a chance to see how deep simplicity goes. Very deep, it turns out."

The Decemberists play the last of their 3 sold-out shows at New York's Beacon Theatre tonight, and rave reviews in the New York Times and New York Post give a preview of what fans in the rest of the country have in store for them.

Urban art imprint When Art Imitates Life (WAIL) deals in music visionaries creating visual art collections. Its premiere release, a collaboration with The RZA titled Victory Or Death, dubbed “the greatest painting of 2010” by Village Voice (link), ‘remixed’ the historic Washington Crossing The Delaware painting, replacing Washington with Wu-Tang Clan visionary RZA, the man who changed the sound and business of hip-hop. The Valley Of Kings fused Egyptian iconography with the philosophy and aesthetic of Hieroglyphics, the Bay Area collective that molded underground hip-hop as we know it today. And on February 19, 2011, WAIL will officially unveil "Bold As Scratch", their artistic collaboration with Q-Bert, the world-famous deejay who made turntables a musical instrument and turntablism an artform. Conceptualized and created behind closed doors in San Francisco by Q-Bert, hip-hop photographer Trevor Traynor and the WAIL team over the course of more than a year, the piece evolved from a multitude of ideas and sketches to a mixed-media canvas focused on QBert's personal tribute to one of his musical heros. In creation, photography, graphic art, found images and acrylic were utilized. Each piece in the collection of 250 are massive in size, and features custom augmentation by Q-Bert, making each a one-of-a-kind collectible.

The man referred to in many circles as the Jimi Hendrix of deejays has racked a list of accolades in his 25 years on the ones and twos that put him squarely in a league of his own. The three-time DMC world champion created the first musical annotation system for scratching. He was a member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, the world’s first band composed entirely of turntablists. His 1994 release Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik is considered by institutions like The Source Magazine to be the greatest mixtape in hiphop history. Graffiti artist Dug-1 created animations to the sounds of Q-Bert for the animated/live-action feature Wave Twisters, which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Festival. His equipment creations for Vestax and Ortofon have

reached sales into the millions.
Sign up early at www.qbertart.com for details on the piece, as well as a chance to receive a Golden Ticket, allowing you to view the piece on February 17, two days before the general public.

WAIL was founded in 2010 by King Tech of the World Famous Wake Up Show and MTV’s Sway Calloway in conjunction with notorious L.A. creativity house SceneFour.

BIGGEST SELLING BRITISH DEBUT ACT OF 2010, TINIE TEMPAH,
MAKES NORTH AMERICAN DEBUT; ALBUM 'DISC-OVERY' SET FOR U.S. RELEASE MAY 3, 2011
(January 19, 2011 - Los Angeles, CA) - Fresh off of a stellar year as a new artist in the UK, Tinie Tempah has set his sights on America and will be releasing his album, Disc-Overy, on Capitol Records May 3, 2011. The album will contain songs from the UK debut along with new material recorded in the US.

Tinie has earned a lot of bragging rights in a short period of time. The 22 year old can boast that he is the best selling UK newcomer of 2010 and his debut album quickly went platinum and spawned two #1 hits and four Top 5 singles on the other side of the pond. His videos have over 40 million combined plays on YouTube and it was announced last week that he leads the Brit Awards, earning four nominations (British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Single for Pass Out and British Album of the Year for Disc-Overy); the Brit Awards will take place on February 15th, where Tinie will also be performing.

Tinie has designated 2011 as the year he will duplicate his successes in America and he is already making waves. MTV recently named him an "Artist to Watch in 2011." His latest single, "Written in the Stars," is an addictive and message-driven song that will inspire listeners to stay in the positive and believe in themselves. Entertainment Weekly named the song the "next big hit of 2011." The song will be available on iTunes on January 25th with the accompanying video making its debut the same day on Vevo.com.

Check out the "Written in the Stars" audio stream here: http://goo.gl/qMa4E

As if that is not enough, Tinie continues his takeover with his first ever US television performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on February 2nd where he will perform his massive hit and first single, Pass Out

Later in the year, Tinie will be performing at upcoming festivals including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival and SXSW. He will also embark on a US tour that will start in March (dates/cities to be announced).

Tinie Tempah and Pharrell recently got together in Australia on New Year's Eve, and wanted to wish their friends, family, and fans a happy and healthy 2011. Check out the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T9Tie8llPg

Tinie Tempah recently performed with a full band live from the Running Club (UK) in association with Deejay TV and Nike in Milan last November. Check out http://bit.ly/gnQbu5 for the full performance and interview.

First Aid Kit live at Rockwood Music Hall - Their debut album The Big Black and the Blue would never have you believe Klara and Johanna Soderberg are a couple of teenagers, capricious and probably a bit dizzy over the good fortune they've seen come their way over the last year or so. You see, the Swedish sisters can count a host of highly esteemed musicians as fans of their band First Aid Kit. Fleet Foxes and Karin Dreijer Andersson (Fever Ray, The Knife) immediately come to mind...and we're pretty sure our latest segment of The Guest Apartment will make an admirer out of you the moment you dive in to it.

Accomplished producer XXXchange has come together with lifelong friend Devlin (of Devlin & Darko) and video-collage artist/producer Ghostdad to form WIN WIN. Here’s the premier of the final WIN WIN teaser commercial in the ongoing series of bizarre videos. Their album comes out on 15th of February on Vice Records!

Higher Than The Eiffel is a worthy successor to breakthrough debut Ego War and follow up Generation, which spawned the massive worldwide hit, "Shot You Down."

The awesome video for "Only Man" is a winner of the 2010 UK Music Video Awards for "Best Visual Effects" beating out the likes of Kanye West and Lily Allen.

Recorded and produced by the band with help from a cast of friends which includes Suggs and Mike Barson of Madness, the fourteen tracks on Higher Than The Eiffel range from the full on club stomp of lead single, "Only Man" to the psychedelic come down of "Daisy Chains," to the chic guitar disco of "Dynamite" and the ska stylings of "The Future Belongs To Us." This is a complete album, a journey through various dance music, all held together by Simon Franks' conversational lyrics and the little production twists and turns that are the hallmark of Audio Bullys sound.

"...a collection of glaring vision--the most complete picture of Audio Bullys to date."

"...Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale have taken their time...and emerged altogether stronger"

Fresh off of an Australian tour and currently showcasing in select cities across Canada, Carmen Townsend has been selected to tour with the groundbreaking rock and roll band Heart. Playing 20 dates coast-to-coast as part of the Heart Comes Home – Canada Tour 2011, Carmen was hand picked by the band themselves in what is shaping up to be one of 2011’s hottest concert tours. And all before the release of her upcoming album Waitin’ and Seein’.

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Townsend has been making music her whole life. Both on the album and on stage she immediately strikes a chord on two levels: her live-wire sound is vast, with stretching riffs that build into a fierce sonic motion accompanied by vocals that are earthy and enduring, her voice becomes a powerful instrument all on its own.

Starting in St. John’s, NL and working it’s way to Vancouver, BC the tour marks the 35th anniversary of Heart’s debut record and first coast-to-coast Canadian tour in three decades. With the January 25th release of Waitin’ and Seein’ (Company House/EMI) the timing couldn’t be more perfect for Carmen Townsend to share her talent with the country she calls home.

New York, NY – …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Conrad Keely and Jason Reece – has teamed up with Baeblemusic for an exclusive release date event at Littlefield in Brooklyn on February 8th to celebrate their seventh full-length studio album – Tao of the Dead (Superball Music). This very special event will be the band’s only NYC area show until they return in April to kick off their co-headlining tour with Surfer Blood at Bowery Ballroom. It’s an opportunity for fans to catch the band in an intimate setting and get to view the incredible artwork of Trail’s own Conrad Keely. Not only will Keely be displaying original art from the new album, he’ll also be debuting two large scale paintings. Check out the official 'Tao Of The Dead' site.

A surprisingly forceful yet sophisticated new album, Tao of the Dead also features unbelievable cover art by Keely who brought characters and elements from previous album art to life through his graphic novella – created to accompany the release. When Keely co-founded the band with Jason Reece in 1994 he began discovering new ways to blend his love of art and music, mainly through the band's album covers and CD booklets. The art has evolved over the years, but has always been in a Victorian style, with a more recent branch into what some people have categorized as Steampunk – a sub-genre of science fiction and fantasy that often draws from the Victorian era when steam power was used and the genre came into prominence during the 80’s and early 90’s.

To celebrate this incredible artwork and the band’s impressive new album …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead teamed up with Baeblemusic, Superball Music and Littlefield to put on this one time release date event. Plus we'll be there with our camera's to capture all the action!!

Bosco Delrey, the newest addition to Diplo's Mad Decent label and the Downtown Records family, is set to release his debut full-length album, Everybody Wah, this March. Without any contemporary peers to compare him to, Bosco's sound is reflective of his Memphis by way of New Jersey surroundings; an updated electro-rock outfit that encapsulates what a Sun Studios artist might sound like in 3011. Everybody Wah is an album filled with heavy beats, phasing synths, tickling harpsichords and dirty guitars, guaranteed to turn heads and grab the attention of genre-hopping fans from all over the world. The unapologetic, dark haired avenger of rock and roll is prepared to capture the ears of everyone from dancehall addicts to electro-maniacs and as part of the Mad Decent team he will have no trouble finding them.

Mad Decent released four blazing non-album cuts last fall, grabbing the attention of two of hip hop's most revered artists, Ad Rock and Mike D of the Beastie Boys. They've individually remixed the tracks "Evil Lives" and "My My Race Car," respectively and the result is a cross generational conversation that's sure to melt minds. Along with the remixes, Bosco has prepared several psychedelic music videos for your eyes, the first; "Space Junky" is available to view below now on Stereogum. Anyone who has seen Bosco's live show knows that it's truly unique and after a successful stint on the road last fall with the Magic Kids, Bosco will follow his album release with SXSW appearances and tour dates to be announced throughout the US this spring.

Soul Clap (Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine) met Wolf + Lamb (Gadi Mizrahi and Zev Eisenberg) in September 2008 when they travelled from their native Boston to attend Wolf + Lamb’s underground club, the Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn. The four of them hit it off pretty much instantly. “At the time we had made a couple of edits and we gave them to Gadi and Zev,” says Eli. “We released stuff on their label [also called Wolf + Lamb].”

When !K7 approached the four of them to do a DJ Kicks mix, the initial idea was do it as Wolf + Lamb versus Soul Clap. It wasn’t long before they realised something more collaborative was where their heads were at. Eli explains: “So much of the power of the music we do comes from the idea that we’re a collective, even expanding beyond the four of us to acts like No Regular Play and Nicholas Jaar that come under the Wolf + Lamb label umbrella. Performing together is our strength.” Gadi continues: “Yeah, the concept for this mix was originally that going to be to use our favourite tracks from the last two years —y’know, classic stuff — but then we thought it might be a stronger idea to do something that was about our world.

We have such a strong sense of collective about the way we do things at the Marcy Hotel and on the Wolf + Lamb label. It’s very loose and we bring all our artists together and we kind of play it by ear and the vibe is very chilled out and deep. We figured if we could bring that to a mix and keep it in the family, with people who’ve released on the label we would have something special.”...[]

The elusive and talented man behind a long list of film scores and musical projects, Ben Lovett, is unveiling a new opus that spans the country and includes an all-star carnival of contributing musicians, film directors, kids, choirs, and painters.

The LOVETTcollective are releasing Highway Collection, available March 15th, 2011.

Through a nomadic and exploratory lifestyle, Ben Lovett has created an album of compelling variety, captured in motion, each song brilliantly crafted ‘from a different part of another life’, into a diverse philosophy of sound deep enough to sink a ship.

On Highway Collection you find a driving pulse and child-like innocence akin to The Shins, layered with zany and dreamy backing vocals a la The Flaming Lips, floating above the rolling drumbeats of a modernized Strawberry Fields-era Beatles, all led by a constantly evolving voice with an eloquent message of mature and heartfelt universality.

Lovett's eclectic cast of contributing musicians includes members of The Avett Brothers, The Mars Volta, and Cursive, to name a few, additions by Money Mark, Electric Owls, Ponderosa and appearances by talents involved in projects as diverse as the Eels and Spiritualized to Against Me, The Zac Brown Band and the Sonos Quartet.

Ben Lovett has composed original scores for 12 films, including Last Goodbye, starring Faye Dunaway; the Sundance critically acclaimed The Signal, in 2007; and was awarded Best Score in the 2009 Brooklyn International Film Festival for his work in The Last Lullaby. You’ll also spot his name in the opening credits of MTV Films 2010 original movie, My Super Psycho Sweet Sixteen II, having composed the score to both the cult favorite and it’s predecessor in 2009.

Having also produced several acclaimed albums that include Hot Water Music vocalist Chris Wollard’s solo debut, Chris Wollard & The Ship Thieves, and the Epitaph-released Patent Pending (2006) from collaborative project Heavens with Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, it’s no surprise that Ben Lovett’s own debut is a masterpiece of production.

Join us in celebrating the release of Highway Collection by LOVETT, available March 15th, 2011. This is an eclectic and exciting project full of surprises, steered by an artist that all the wise will keep an ear on.

After a thunderous series of shows at CMJ in NYC last October, The Lines reveal their plans to return to the North American festival circuit with appearances at Canadian Music Week (Mar. 9th-13th) and SXSW (Mar. 16th-20th). Fully equipped with their debut self-titled LP, a robust 2nd single “El Matador”, and the full touting support from none other than Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, The Lines are sure to raise some eyebrows and knock some socks off.

So far, The Lines have created a community that verges on the fanatical. This time, The Lines are crossing the Atlantic again in support of their 2nd single “El Matador” and previewing tracks from their debut, eponymous album. Having toured with fellow Brit-Rock outfits Babyshambles, Supergrass, The Charlatans and Editors, and making huge headway on the airwaves with ‘Domino Effect’ reaching Top 10 in the Indie Charts, The Lines are poised to make waves in the North American music scene upon their exciting return in March.

The story of Hello Bella is one of adversity and triumph. Officially formed in 2007, the band released their first EP, That Girl in the summer of 2008. Following the release, they launched their “Small Town Tour,” focusing on playing small Ontario towns in the dead of winter. Between garnering airplay on local radio stations and landing a chance to perform in front of a celebrity panel of MuchMusic’s “Disband,” Hello Bella moved in together to begin writing their debut full-length. They were soon granted their big break: a chance to open for international pop icons Black Eyed Peas at Sarnia Bayfest. The day after receiving the news, a house fire broke out and quickly spread to their jam space. The gig now in jeopardy, their local communities rallied around them and raised enough money to replace damaged equipment. This kind of rousing sentiment doesn’t show itself everyday, but it can be heard in spades on Echoes of the Atmosphere.

>From the epic build of ‘Stand,’ the album’s stirring opener and first single to the catchy stomp of ‘Cosmo,’ Echoes of the Atmosphere is full of polished, radio-ready pop-rock that leans on uplifting synth and keys, diverse hooks and the palpable emotion heard within lead singer Stephanie Poort’s vocals. There is no shortage of grand aspirations on Echoes. Hello Bella balance playful hooks with a stretching sonic landscape on ‘Argentina,’ give weight to the soaring romantic swoon of ‘Earthquake,’ and let their true rock and roll aspirations shine through on the crunchy groove within ‘Any Road But Here.’

“Hello Bella is regarded as one of the most recognizable musical acts in southwestern Ontario. Their musical style has allowed them to cross over into multiple genres...I can say with full confidence that Hello Bella can become a national icon in Canadian music.” -Tony Frangis, 99.9 The Fox FM Sarnia

In short, Echoes is poised to set dance halls and speakers on fire very, very soon. The album is full of spur of the moment production including recording a marching band walking by the studio’s open window during an art festival and an opening synth line on one track realized by bumping a member’s love handles against the keyboard. Yet there are no processed pop songs here; these are five musicians who are aware of their upbringing and are ready for listeners far and wide to hear both their story and their unmitigated groove.

Hello Bella is Stephanie Poort (lead vocals, keys) of Wyoming, ON, Nic Malara, (keys, guitar, etc.) of Coral Springs, FL, Mitch Fiddick (bass guitar) of Petrolia, ON, Rob Pearse (drums), of Petrolia/Port Stanley, ON, and Matt Naylor (lead guitar) of Sarnia, ON.

Already a success in the UK with three hit singles off his first album Complete Me, Frankmusik is ready to unleash his fresh brand of electro-pop stateside with his US debut Do It in the AM. Before crafting his own signature sound, Frankmusik (aka Vincent Frank) was known for his cutting-edge remixes for the likes of Lady Gaga and the Pet Shop Boys, along with his work with up-and-coming artists like Ellie Goulding and Sky Ferreira.

Los Angeles was far from the clubs of London where Frank had honed his new, bold style: a combination of alt-synth pop, hard-knocking beats and flowing melodies. He was immediately drawn to downtown LA's vibrant atmosphere and creative energy, which was the perfect inspiration for new material. In fact, the area would soon spawn the G6-flying, alt-electro-hip hop group Far East Movement, with whom Frank would go on to collaborate on their song "Fighting for Air" and Frankmusik's "Do It in the AM," the title song of Frankmusik's new album.

The video for "The Fear Inside" was shot on Frank's new home turf in downtown LA. "'The Fear Inside' is a song about relieving the pressures and complications of the modern world through the strength of a close and intimate relationship," explains Frankmusik, breaking into a smile. "And it wasn't too bad getting to show that with Natalie [lead actress] in the video."

Forever intent on strengthening their sound and their brand. Hip-Hop duo, Nefew, have teamed up with DJ Green Lantern for this, the second chapter, in their free-download history. MAN VS MANY has been inspired by their own trials and tribulations at becoming a presence in the music industry and continues to promote the talents the combination of Polemikk and PA Double possess.
Opting to work with a variety of other artists and producers on this project, MAN VS MANY has spawned tracks such as the internet smash, The Fan, which was produced and featured Virginia heavyweight, Nottz as well as Game which saw the double act team up with Detroit vocalist Dwele.

"Working with DJ Green Lantern, Nottz, and all the other artists involved in the project was a great privilege for us. Man vs. Many will be our launch pad to higher spheres. It will definitely take the listener a step closer to what we’re about to deliver in the near future and we’re totally excited about that. We're off to a good start in 2011 and there will be a lot of new opportunities waiting for us. Man Vs Many is merely one of the great projects we will tackle this year."- PA DOUBLE
Like anything Nefew associate themselves and their brand with, MAN VS MANY contains a subliminal message. In this instance they tackle the importance of self-evaluation and personal strength in making a name for oneself in the music industry as well as promoting longevity.

"Man vs Many stands for the individual who accepts his grind and knows that he has to go through it in order to achieve something, while representing the conflict between passion and compromise." - POLEMIKK
