JIMMY EAT WORLD has just unveiled their official video for "My Best Theory," the first single off their highly anticipated album, Invented. The Ron Winter's (MGMT, TV on the Radio, LCD Soundsystem) directed video takes a sci-fi approach in its depiction of the meaning behind the song, something that front man, Jim Adkins, described as a song about "finding your individuality in a world where extremes are more and more presented as your only option." Watch the video here to see story unfold.

PALOMA FAITH
DO YOU WANT THE TRUTH OR
SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL?
(SIN/Sony UK; Aug. 31, 2010)

"I'm inspired by the queens of tragedy - Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Judy Garland. Then throw a bit of Nick Cave, Etta James and PJ Harvey into the mix. Add all my influences from avant garde cinema and you start to come close. My visual style is fancy dress as I never grew out of dressing up boxes! My early performances were David Lynch meets William Blake at the circus. Welcome to my world...."
Paloma Faith

PALOMA FAITH set to release her debut album Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful? in the U.S. digitally via SIN/Sony UK on August 31, 2010 . The 25-year-old British singer-songwriter and actress' album is certified platinum in the UK and stayed on the Top 40 album charts for over 40 weeks. Paloma wrote this album in the UK, Sweden and America collaborating with Ed Harcourt, Jodi Marr, Greg Kurstin, Steve Robson and Jorgen Elofsson, and recorded it entirely in London.

Paloma Faith has been collecting critical acclaim since her debut UK release in 2009. Her songs shimmer with soul, anchored by the hugely colorful stamp of her idiosyncratic persona; drawing on diverse influences from music, literature, art and cinema. Paloma Faith is an artist in the truest sense of the word, and one who will surely resonate with a correspondingly broad audience.

Like her music, Paloma's story never fails to thrill. In the lead up to her becoming a singer, she has been a magician's assistant, trained contemporary dancer, St. Martin's alumni with an MA in theatre direction, a performer in burlesque shows, and an actress, appearing in
St Trinians and the new Terry Gilliam film The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.

John Legend &
The Roots
Wake Up!

John Legend and Questlove, drummer for The Roots (the mighty mighty Roots crew, if you didn’t know) were very involved in the 2008 election, which of course, was won by Barack Obama. So they started throwing around an idea about an album of politically-charged songs, and the result is “Wake Up!”, a collaborative effort of covers from the 1960s and 1970s, when people (musicians, really) actually stood for something.

The Roots effortlessly slide into Eugene McDaniels’ “Compared To What”, with bass player Owen Biddle dropping one of the funkiest basslines you’ll ever hope to hear, while Legend croons his way through McDaniels’ Vietnam War protest, and an urgent sax breaks up the song near the end. It also sets off the feel of a glorified jam, and if you’ve ever seen a Roots live show, you know that isn’t a bad thing. The Roots have, easily, the best live show in hip-hop, and the best parts about it are their jams. Wu-Tang Clan fans will recognize Baby Huey’s “Hard Times” as the sample used in Ghostface Killah’s “Buck 50”, but the Roots manage to take some of the grit out of it, although Black Thought drops a typically-ill verse (“And I’m hopin’ to feel something that’s real/but there’s no hope when you are but a spoke in the wheel”). They do the same thing to Donny Hathaway’s “Lil’ Ghetto Boy” (which was sampled by Dr. Dre on “The Chronic”), and again, Black Thought drops some jewels (“Moms started to chase that base like Willie Mays”). The versatility of The Roots is on full display on this album, but Legend surprisingly holds up with vocal arrangements and harmonies that will stay stuck in your heads
for days.

The outstanding song on an album that are filled with them is the remake of Bill Withers’ “I Can’t Write Left-Handed”, which is the tale of a man coming home from Vietnam and wants to write a letter to his mother (I won’t ruin the story of the title, just listen to the lyrics), and it’s a sprawling song that spans almost 12 minutes. The high point comes with a guitar solo from the Roots’ Capt. Kirk, which then causes Legend to go from Withers to a little bit of Jimi Hendrix, which I honestly didn’t think he had in him.

The low points of “Wake Up” are Prince Lincoln’s “Humanity (Love The Way It Should Be)”, although you’ll dig it if you’re a reggae fan. The cover of Ernie Hines’ “My Generation” should have been longer (although shoutout to ‘90s veteran CL Smooth, who comes by to drop a gem on ‘em). But all in all, “Wake Up!” is an exceptional album that makes you move and think, all at the same time. I know, I know, it may be a strange concept, but Legend’s smooth voice carries right along with the brilliant instrumentation of The Roots. You need “Wake Up!” in
your life.

“Lelia is an undeniable talent, in every way. She has it all, amazing voice, great songwriter, and overall an incredible artist. From the moment I first heard her voice, I knew there was something special going on, and when I saw her perform live for the first time at The Bitter End in New York, I was even more blown away. She has that thing everyone is looking for, the thing you can't quite describe what it is, that "it" factor, Lelia has it. She's incredible."

Rob Fusari, Producer (Lady Gaga, Destiny’s Child)

New York – Acclaimed LA-based songwriter Lelia Broussard, originally from the bayous of South Louisiana, is set to unleash her third full-length release, ‘MASQUERADE’ (November 2nd, Self-Release). With masterful production by Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson, Jenny Owen Youngs), the album boasts an intriguing collection of driving folk/pop gems, bringing to mind a cross between Jenny Lewis and Jonatha Brooke. Already, considerable buzz is building around ‘MASQUERADE’ with the early spread of “Satellite” and “Shoot For The Moon” among the songwriter’s fiercely loyal fan base. Most recently, The Deli Magazine nominated Lelia for their Los Angeles “Artist of the Month” poll, and “Satellite” was prominently featured on powerhouse NPR AAA station
WXPN's blog.

Over the course of her career, Lelia has collaborated with A-List producers including Rob Fusari (Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston Destiny's Child), Dave Trumfio (Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Built to Spill) and Marshall Altman (Kate Voegle, Marc Broussard). Her songs have been featured on hit television shows such as CBS' Joan of Arcadia NBC’s Men In Trees, and MTV's The Hills as well as a few small independent films. In 2008, Lelia signed a publishing deal with Rondor Universal Music Group. Lelia’s strong grass roots fan base recently raised over $15,000 to help fund her new record and pushed her to be one of the most successful music projects on the popular indie fundraising site, Kickstarter.

After the critical success of his EP for the legendary Scottish label, Stuff, Ewan Robertson aka Offshore presents his first EP for new home Big Dada. Four tracks deep, the “Aneurysm EP” shows beyond any shadow of a doubt what a talented musician Robertson is.

“Aneurysm” itself is the bass tune of the package. Put it on any big speaker system and feel your breastplate buzz. But despite its links back to Robertson’s earlier work it also shows a reliance on melody and detailing which sets it apart from the work of some of his contemporaries. This isn’t just music to play in a club. Offshore develops this aesthetic throughout the rest of the EP. “Hiccup” is the melancholic soundtrack to an East European thriller. “UTG” builds from a series of slipping, sliding interludes to epic electrowob-orchestral climax. And last track “Round And Round” demonstrates that Robertson’s work perhaps owes as much to the moors, mountains and even folk tunes of his home country as it does to hip hop and inner city London, where he now lives.

Bass-heavy, packed with detail and an ear for melody, this is the next wave of Cale(donian)-funk. Roberston’s debut album is expected Spring 2011.

DJ Qbert voted America’s Best DJ for 2010
Port Washington, N.Y. - The votes have all been counted and it's official - DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ are proud to announce that DJ Qbert has been voted America's Best DJ for 2010.

The talented San Francisco-based jock - and ABDJ runner-up in both 2008 and 2009 - will be honored October 2 in Las Vegas for the ABDJ Closing Party, which will include a press reception at Ghost Bar in The Palms Hotel & Casino. After being presented with his trophy - a special Gold-Plated Pioneer mixer - from 2009 America’s Best DJ winner Z-Trip, DJ Qbert will perform at the Rain Nightclub for Paul Oakenfold’s Planet Perfecto party, one of America's wildest nights out. (Incidentally, Z-Trip maintains his “Z-Trip Revolution” residency at the Rain nightclub in The Palms, where he took over the decks after the passing of DJ AM.)

"Skratching Lives! What a great opportunity to show that we DJs are musicians. Thank you to everyone at DJ Times, ThudRumble.com, and everyone for supporting the skratch art!," said DJ Qbert, reacting to the news that he was voted 2010 champ.

Running in tandem with the competition, the 20-event America’s Best DJ Summer Tour (presented by Pioneer DJ) kicked off Memorial Day Weekend at Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival and wraps with the closing party at the Palms on October 2. Along the way, America’s Best DJ summer tour stopped at Baltimore’s Starscape Festival, New York’s Black & White Festival, Denver’s Global Dance Festival and Atlantic City’s DJ Expo, among many other events.

Additionally, we’re happy to announce that Kelly Perry of Denver, Colorado has won the ABDJ Grand Prize trip for two to Las Vegas that includes roundtrip airfare, accommodations at The Palms, and VIP treatment at the America’s Best DJ closing party in Rain Nightclub.
