Just checking in on the press release I sent your way a couple weeks ago and thought your readers would be particularly interested in the latest news regarding StreetLab, a NYC-based electronic duo, whose lethal catalog of work erases all boundaries between dance and rock music. Mark 'Cosmo' Lamorg and Ryan Leary have made a name for themselves remixing classic rock songs with club-ready beats, and ultimately reinventing great music by artists such as The Beatles, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Beastie Boys.

With a endless list of remixes and a growing collection of original material to their name, Streetlab is gearing up to unleash their debut full-length album set for an April 20th release. They’re latest single “Rat Racer” is available on iTunes and will be the first single off the album.

With the shrink-wrapping still cooling on copies of Future Chaos, Bomb The Bass mastermind Tim Simenon was already sketching out tracks for a new album, and in late 2008 he headed into a São Paulo studio to work with a new collaborator: Gui Boratto, Brazil's master craftsman of deep, melodic techno, known for his records on Kompakt and Kompakt Pop, as well as a thrilling remix of Bomb the Bass' own "Black River."
"The idea came about when I heard his remix of 'Black River,' which I adored," says Simenon. "It was a very comfortable environment, very easygoing. Gui's got a small studio in his house, and I had the basic sketches drawn up a few months beforehand, so we could just work together on one computer, bouncing ideas back and forth."
The tropical environment proved fruitful. It took just two weeks to give the album its basic shape. "It just happened," says Simenon, "right from the offset, when Gui and I sat down in the studio. Even though some of the stuff he does is dark, a lot is quite uplifting. A lot of those melodies really began in that first couple of weeks in Brazil."
Back home in Amsterdam, Simenon sent the unfinished tracks to a select group of singers; New York avant-disco maven Kelley Polar and occasional Swayzak collaborator Richard Davis each tackled two songs, while The Battle of Land and Sea (Portland, Oregon singer-songwriter Sarah O'Shura) contributed one. Longtime Bomb the Bass collaborator Paul Conboy lent his deep, distinctive voice to four songs on the new album.
A final guest appearance is made by none other than Depeche Mode's Martin L. Gore, who plays synthesizers on the closing song, "Milakia." The original tapes were recorded more than a decade ago, after Simenon had produced the band's album Ultra. "It's a track I've always loved, but could never find a home for, really," he says. "It seemed like a perfect closer for this particular album."

Last year’s In & Out Of Control [Vice Music] found The Raveonettes pulling together all of the disparate sounds they’ve mastered over their decade-spanning career. From bubblegum pop and sinister noir rock, to fuzzed out noise and throbbing dance music, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo compiled it all on their fourth LP. But despite the album’s nomadic heart, the Raves’ true sweet spot has always been the ringing, reverbed guitars and slicked back melodies that make album standout “Heart of Stone” such a pleaser. Picking up where they left off on 2008’s “Black / White” collaboration, the band recently reunited with Blind to create a video deserving of the track.

This morning, on the strength of the brilliant new animated clip, The Raveonettes elbowed their way onto the VEVO homepage, right next to big budget fare from major label artists. One look at the clip and it’s easy to tell why. Dark and surreal, the Chris Do-helmed video depicts an intricate steampunk world which serves as the backdrop for the song’s tale of love and loss. From the director: “A man's unexpressed agony at the loss of his lover incites a chain reaction of inner chaos and turmoil that a female character, the representation of his inner self, unsuccessfully attempts to quell. His broken heart is turned to stone.

New York, NY- Hard rock band Bullet For My Valentine returns with its third Jive album, Fever, on April 27. The official first single, the blistering “Your Betrayal” impacts at radio on March 9, with a video to follow shortly.

Fever pairs Bullet For My Valentine with producer Don Gilmore, best known for his work with Linkin Park and Good Charlotte. The Welsh band—vocalist/guitarist Matt Tuck, guitarist Michael Paget, bassist Jason James and drummer Michael Thomas--recorded Fever in studios both in its native Wales and Los Angeles The album follows 2008’s Scream Aim Fire, which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200, a career high for the group, whom Kerrang! named Best British Band in both 2008 and 2009. Worldwide Scream Aim Fire has sold one million copies and debuted in the Top 5 in Germany, Austria, Australia and #1 in Japan and reached gold status in the UK and Canada. Their 2006 debut, The Poison, has sold a million copies worldwide and certified gold status in America, the UK, Canada and Germany. Since those releases BFMV have rocked audiences on the Taste of Chaos, Mayhem, and No Fear festivals.

The electrifying live band starts a headlining U.S. tour on April 30th. Stops for the festival veterans include New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival and Columbus, Ohio’s Rock on the Range. Upcoming international festival highlights include the Download Festival in the United Kingdom, Germany’s massive Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, Sweden’s Metal Town, Belgium’s Graspop, Austria’s Nova Rock and Italy’s famed Gods Of Metal. 8 years after his first vinyl release Georg Levin can already be described as a long-time yet unlikely member of Berlin’s electronic music scene. With both his solo project and his production outfit Wahoo he is definitely too much on the soulful side to be a typical representative of the techno and rock sound the city is known for. However, it may be this supposedly alien surrounding that gives his compositions and productions a distinctive blend. To his credit Georg also had a no.1 on Traxsource in late 2009 as a precursor to the release of this, his debut album.

The Fed Pennies have been breaking through the independent music scene since their 2004 inception. Founders Jake Smith and Aaron Farr, previous ECMA winners with Halifax international recording artists The Jimmy Swift Band, decided it was time to branch off on their own in order to explore a new musical direction. With that in mind a new definitive rock sound was born. The group is influenced by various genres of rock including: punk, garage and alternative. Their influences vary as much as their individual tastes including Black Sabbath to the Beatles. Backed with solid melodies, disenchanted lyrics and playfully angry bass lines this band is definitely worth checking out.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 12, 2010) – VICE and VBS.TV today announced the North American premiere of Swansea Love Story on VBS.TV, a documentary film that follows the lives of a community of young heroin addicts living in an economically ravaged city of South Wales. Against the backdrop of acute poverty leftover from bygone industry, Swansea Love Story elicits the muted and desperate hope of a sect of Britain few care to acknowledge.

The six-part documentary debuts today on VBS.TV and will run over the weekend and through next week.

Co-directed and produced by VICE UK Editor Andy Capper and Leo Leigh, this dark and moving portrait shows as much about generational destitution and substance abuse as it is does about the weary personal relationships that somehow hold it all together. Swansea Love Story is about the largely unreported heroin epidemic in South Wales.

Describing the film Capper states, “I wanted to make this film because we were tired of seeing homeless young people being portrayed as little more than statistics. Documentaries about drug use often come out pious and fail to really get to know the people behind the drug usage. We wanted to show what it was like to live on the street, under the grip of heroin, as realistically as possible.”
Swansea Love Story was shot throughout 2009 after Capper and Leigh made contact with a gang of young addicts through a nonprofit drugs agency.

The film follows Amy & Cornelius, Lee and Leanne, Clint, Kristian and Wills around their daily lives as they struggle to get money to buy drugs, alcohol and for places to live. During the course of the film, characters get clean and relapse. They fall in and out of love. We meet their families. We meet their dealers. We meet members of Swansea's depressed mining community. We meet the girls who work in the city's many lap-dancing bars the Muslim community, and the racist thugs who want them out of the city.

This Valentine’s Day (Sunday, February 14, 2010), Bruce McDonald, Daniel MacIvor, Molly Parker, Tracy Wright, Don McKellar and New Real Films invite you to be a part of their latest film, TRIGGER (distributed by E1), at the

Mod Club (722 College Street).

The evening will feature a live concert to raise money for the Salvation Army's Florence Booth House Women’s Shelter (723 Queen Street West), with performances by some of Toronto's finest female talent including Lioness, Heavy Filth, One Hundred Dollar Duets, The Ghost is Dancing, Carmen Elle, Foxfire, Lisa Lobsinger of Broken Social Scene, Hooded Fang, Alex Olsen and Jessica Lalonde. Sound direction will be provided by Martin Davis Kinack and Caroline Azar (Fifth Column) will host be your host and emcee.

"For Florence" will also feature a short performance by local heroes TRIGGER, a (fictitious) female-fronted band from the mid-'90s who soared to international acclaim only to infamously crash and burn during a notorious Shepherd’s Bush gig and were never heard from again….
